The temple has been created as a non-profit organisation to support and further the Hindu faith and local community activities and runs the Shri Kasi Viswanathar (UK) Temple.
Our temple was formed in 2019, at a site in Swanley, Kent from where we hope to grow and develop the temple and its ancillary community, educational and cultural services.
We welcome all Hindus to join us at our services and encourage you to register your details with us by completing the following form.
During your visit, we may have collected videos or photos of you or your family and friends as part of a general capture of events at the temple.
Please rest assured that we do not use these images for any purpose other than activities related to Shri Kasi Viswanathar Temple (UK). As the temple is open to all, it is not practical for us to exclude any individual images. Generally, images are captured in the pooja hall from the food area toward the prayer area. If you feel strongly that you do not wish to be captured in any images please remain behind the cameras on the raised food platform.
The temple opened its doors again to the public after being shut for so long due to the pandemic. On the auspicious day of Maha Shivarathiri (Tuesday, 1st March 2022), we had abhishegam, Homam and special pooja attended by over 100 people from near and far.
We thank the devotees who sponsored the iyer’s dakshinā, abishegam, homam and pooja materials. Devotees also brought many prasadam items that were blessed and partaken by all. Several devotees performed an all-night vigil where there were chantings, bhajans, and playing of traditional board games and periodic ‘kala’ deeparathanai. There was also a Zoom session where an experienced teacher taught the devotees to artfully shade a given outline of Sivaperuman.
Shiva (Siva) is one of the most important gods in Hinduism and a member of the holy trinity (trimurti) with Brahma and Vishnu. Shiva is a complex character who may represent goodness and benevolence, and he serves as the Protector. Shiva is also associated with Time, and in this capacity, he is both the destroyer and creator of all things.
In Hinduism, the universe is thought to regenerate in cycles (every 2,160,000,000 years). Shiva destroys the universe at the end of each cycle which then allows for a new Creation. Shiva is also the great ascetic, abstaining from all forms of indulgence and pleasure, concentrating rather on meditation as a means to find perfect happiness. He also has a darker side as the leader of evil spirits, ghosts and as the master of thieves, villains and beggars. Shiva is the most important Hindu god for the Shaivism sect, the patron of Yogis and Brahmins, and also the protector of the Vedas, the sacred texts.
